Volvo Repair: 89 240 - ack, what did I do!?, airflow sensor, dash lights

Question
Started out with rough idle, stalling, no accelleration, and sputtering when accellerating.  I tried cleaning the airflow sensor(very carefully), and replacing the air filter.  Then it wouldn't start at all.  Figuring I broke the airflow sensor, I got a refurb and put it on.  Still no start and now no spark.  I started checking the typical things like the spark plugs, the distributer, the coil, the plug wires, and the battery.  The battery is fully charged, the coil is getting power, and the distributer is getting power(but no spark).  I did notice that when I turn the key for ignition, all the dash lights that are supposed to turn on when the car starts would light up except the check engine light; which used to light up then turn off.  What did I do to my car, and is there anything I can do to get it running again? Thanks! =.(

Answer
Sarah, rule number 1.  NEVER clean the air mass meter. You need to check a few things.  The ignition relay and powerstage need to be checked.  Check to see if the fuel system relay is clicking.  Does your car have the ignition control unit by the washer bottle?  You also need to back track and see if you disconnected anything by accident.  Roger
