Answer
Greetings Barbara,
WOW!You have been a busy camper...finding what it takes to have reliable starting 740.
If the car has a crank angle sensor, you might want to look at it.ALSO..check to see that the ground cable is in good condition...I'd add another hefty ground from batt.neg.to engine block and body too..if I were you.
Barbara, sometimes it just makes GOOD SENSE to take car to Volvo service dept.and have them diagnosis the misc. systems the car uses to make it go.Often, the REAL problem is to find what has failed.
Replacing most parts is the easy part of the job.
I commend you for your ability to get into doing it yourself..I strongly endorse people like yourself, who have abilities to do it yourself.
Like most repairmen/woman,I count on a good relationship with at least 2 service depts.at Volvo dealerships. If you treat the service manager with mucho respect, kindness,a cup of coffee with donuts and get to the point quickly, and don't waste his time...he can save you hundreds and hundreds by pointing you to the exact problem...then you fix it yourself.
These are my words of wisdom for today.
           Good luck,
                    Bilbo
