Volvo Repair: 89 Volvo 740 GL Wagon with 250k miles., volvo 740 gl, ground cables

Question
Have worked on cars that I've owned over the years doing minor repairs and maintenance.  Subject car has good battery but when I turn key to start nothing happens.  Have not tried anything, except to check battery and give it a short charge.  Dash lights, headlights and auto windows all work.  Seems to be electrical.  Should I try moving shift lever slightly when I try to start?  Any other suggestions?  Replaced starter a couple years ago, when starter was bad.  Have not had this problem since.  Car has performed well over the years, and does not look or act its age.  Car has been well maintained.

Answer
Greetings Al,
Yes,move g/s to see if it starts...also put g/s in neutral..have someone put hot wire to starter solinoid located on top of starter..to make sure starter is a good one...look well at ground cables as they connect to the engine...they do fail..test the wire to sol.with test light...make sure that battery cables are clean as it relates to the batt.post.
           Goood luck,
