Volvo Repair: 1988 244 stalling, fuel pump relay, smog test

no mech skills,173,000 on the 1988 244 volvo.had no problem for 5 months then brought to emerald auto who changed oil,adjusted timing gave pre smog test then did somthing to tweak it,lost power for smog test,(possible vacummhose?)then started stalling as i was driving. i don't hear the fuel pump in the back and also i was hearing a noise by the front dash possibly where the fuel pump relay is, the noise went away but still don't hear the pump in back!help please!!!

Hi...
        You should look at fuel pump relay...see if relay makes a click when the key is turned to start position..if no click...f/p relay may be bad...
look at fuse box...look very carefully...notice any corrosion at fuse ends...often its the fuse box corrosion.
         Any more info gets technical..
        Find a little guy who fixes Volvos and you'll get a good deal...maybe a friend too.
