Volvo Repair: 1999 v 70 xc, rear tailgate, volvo models

Question
There is a wiring short in the harness for the rear tailgate lock. With no key in the tailgate and the electronic switch and remote sporadic at best, how intensive is it to remove the rear tailgate interior and/ or wiring harness.  Do I need special tools etc..?  I'm almost positive thr short/break is near the hinge at the top.  What kind of mess am I in for?  Also do you know of any Chilton/ Haynes manuals that cover this model?  Thanks heaps..            Dear Eric,

                   Many Volvo models have wiring failures at the hinge to the tailgate.
                 If you decide to do it...make sure you properly reseat hinge gasket or you'll have major rain leak.
          Also...solder wiring..NEVER use butt connectors.
          This job requires a steady hand and above average abilities.
