Volvo Repair: 91 Volvo 240 not getting gas/power, volvo 240, air mass

Question
My wonderful '91 Volvo 240 sedan isn't getting gasoline very easily.  it runs, but hesitates and sputters as if it's not getting ample gasoline.   it takes a while to get up to speed on the highway and isn't very reliable on slower roads as well.  my mechanic replaced the exhaust manifold and it didn't resolve the problem. since then, he's looked for the source of the problem and can't find it. I've considered that it may be a bad batch of gasoline, maybe the air filter, maybe the fuel filter, not sure...  any suggestions?

Answer
    Abby,

I think you might have a bad....Air Mass Meter...this item reads the air that enters the engine...and makes adjustments for diff. driving conditions....it works with the other systems to manage fuel control...
To test it.....find elect. connector at AMM.
Prep wire...remove speecial clip...that locks the connector to the AMM.
With wiring disconnected....see if car runs better...if it does....your AMM is gone.
Be carefull buying another one....this item can cost hundreds....or you might find one thats been remanufactured....saving you big bucks.
If it isn't the AMM...check your ignition.

          Good luck
