Volvo Repair: brake lights, vacuum problem, bulb failure

Question
my car runs great. it is a 1993 940 sedan with 88,000 original miles.  all of a sudden my brake lights stopped working  we've checked all fuses and replaced the switch under the dash as per foriegn auto parts in my area still no lights  all other lights in perfect working order only other problem is cruise is also not working but we believe that is the switch we tested with meter what else can i do it was suggested might be electrical my husband has worked on volvos many years and this has him stumped any help  thanks

Answer
the brakelights could have 2 problems one is the third brake light in the rear window is burnt out and there could also be a bad bulb failure relay which controls power to the 2 rear lights but not the 3rd brake light.this relay should be behind the leaft trunk trim panel it is a blue relay.

the cruise could be many things from a vacuum problem to a bad brake switch  or bad cruise control control unit.I have senn all types of components go bad including the switch you mentioned.
