Volvo Repair: power seat on 1992 940GL, seat rail, tight space

Question
The front pasenger seat wants to go forward or backwards just on the left rail and the right stays still.  What is causing that and if I can get at it is there a way to make it work without pulling the seat out ?

Answer
Hello Dave,  Well, it sounds as if one of two things have happened. One, the rt. rail jammed and has either 'kicked out' the cable end or has 'rounded' on the motor end of the cable.Second, the seat rail and gear may of separated that is not engaging due to mountings comming loose. Its a very tight space to work in. Remove the mount screws and 'shimmy the rails left then rt.and lift at the same time,it helps to have two people.Leave the seat in the car so it can remain connected so you can 'sync' the rails, the gear will move with hand power alone.Use a racing glove you'll be glad you did.Thank you and good hunting!  PKD
