Volvo Repair: volvo radio, volvo experience, volvo family

Question
i own a 1990 740 GL. i would like to upgrade my factory cassette/radio to a cd/radio. i would like to continue to use the amplifier which is separate. i purchased a 9128 ALPINE cd receiver and the amplifier is built into the radio. everyone is telling me to omit the vovo amp. i feel i would loose the sound quality if i did this. plus the speaker configuration sounds very difficult. i also know the volvo radios are alpine manufactured. would it be simplier to install a cd changer and how would i control it with the radio buttons on my present radio? please help. ps i really am in to my volvo i know alot of information which most men find amusing. i purchased this auto for safety reasons and now i am a believer at the age of 50, previously did not like a VOLVO.

Answer
Hello Regina,  Welcome to the Volvo family!! As for the radio the original did have issues and the up-grade is a good idea. The only concern I have is the 'amp rating',that the 'wattage' in new radio versus the volvo. Too little or too much will affect sound quality.A good audio installer(with volvo experience) who can handle the job. Find other volvo drivers in your area,we're a friendly bunch and will be happy to help any way we can.Thank you and good hunting!  PKD
