Volvo Repair: 1987 240DL, electrical connections, good answer

Question
Hello BilbotheGreat, I have a 1987 240DL Wagon and drive 20 miles to work.  On average, three time on the way my engine shuts down, sometimes on the go and sometime idling.  It won't start unless I wait for at least 30 seconds, and then it will start and run fine again.  It does this no matter if it's hot or rainy, whether I drive hard or slow, and I can't figure it out.  Six months ago the timing belt slipped and I had the head cleaned and valves adjusted.  By the time I got the head back, I had forgotten how to put everything back together so I just winged it.  Ever since then, this problem has been happening.  Please help.

Answer
Hi,
Hmmm..lots of things could be..."messed up".
It sounds electrical....bad info to computer...sensor controlling a system is failing....electrical connections ( fusebox corrosion at fuse ends)..underhood connections n/g

You may consider taking the car to your fav dealership or Volvo guru and them plug in their computer into your electrical system...saving you a load of time trying to guess what is wrong....sometimes,it's the only really good answer for this kind of problem.

Bye,
