Volvo Repair: 1987volvo240 dl, prong plug, hall switch

Question
My volvo quit running today.
It isnt getting fuel to the injectors.
So i pulled the pump from the tank aND HOOKED IT DIRECTLY TO THE BATTERY AND IT WORKED FINE.
I WAS WONDERING IF THERE IS A RELAY THAT MIGHT BE BAD. THE FUSES LOOK GOOD AND WHEN IPUT A TESTER ON THE FUEL PUMP CONECTORS THERE WAS POWER THERE.
ANY HELP YOU COULD GIVE ME?

Answer
Hello Rod,  Well first thing ya gotta do is stay calm. When you 'bump'the key,do you hear the fuel pump (under the car)buzz for about 2-3 sec.? If you do,then the pump system is Ok.The next piece is the 'ignition control' box.Its mounted on the pass. sd. of the engine the 8 prong plug and a vac hose are attached to it.That unit also controls fuel injector operation. If you have spark then you know that the 'Hall switch' in the dist. is Ok.What we found was the injector control goes bad in those boxes. The fuel is getting 'to' the injector but not 'through' the injector.Thank you and good hunting!  PKD
