Volvo Repair: 1984 Volvo 240 GL wagon shakes, volvo 240 gl, inner tie rods

Question
My whole car shakes really bad when I get above about 45-50 mph - but then smooths out if I get past 65 mph. Do I need an alignment? I just had the tires rotated and balanced, but it seems to drive pretty straight. Thanks for any help you can give...

Answer
Hello Sheryl,  Your condition may be in the 'drive line' of the car.The drive shaft, the center drive shaft carrier bearing area.If the drive shaft were ever off,it may not of been put on in its' balanced position.'There arrows etched into each half, there can also be yellow or blue paint marks to go by.Also front suspension parts are not to be over-looked,the 'ball joints'or the 'inner tie rods'.They both directly affect the sterring wheel and if your shakeing does not affect the sterring wheel then I would be checking for a bent wheel rim or a slightly bent axle. With  her in the air and the wheels turning your will be able to see if anything in bent.Thank you and good hunting!  PKD
