I have a 89 Volvo 240 DL
I have recently had the starter and battery replaced but she still doesnt start sometimes, if I wait about 1/2hr she usually starts up- but this isnt very effective for me. WHAT else could it be?

THANKS for your time

Hello Jason,  First,'starting' and 'cranking over'are two different things.Your model year had problems with the fuel computer, located on the Rh side where the passenger right foot would rest. If, when you 'bump'the key you don't hear the fuel pump run for 2/3 seconds, the fuel relay is not engaging. One, it has failed or the computer is not sending the 'grounding' pulse to the relay.Yhank You and good hunting!  PKD

Thank your for your ingo-
In your exp how much does that usually run to fix?
Is it worth fixing?

Jason

Answer
Hello Jason,  Glad to hear from you about this because I failed to note the 'speed sensor',we learned that the 'fuel punp relay' and sensor are best replaced together. They are not expensive,$56. for relay and $78. for the sensor. These are considered 'once in the life time' repairs. The speed sensor is located on the top of the bell-housing of the trans and the insulation deteriorates and it begins to fail. You can DIY ,note: if there no codes persent it indicates a 'hard part' failure,a part not monitored by the computer.Do you hear the fuel pumps come on? Its important to know. Thanks PKD
