Volvo Repair: ignition switch/lock cylinder, sterring wheel, switch lock

Question
I have a 93 850 glt and i cannot turn the key in the ignition. it feels like it is locked up and the steering wheel is locked as well. i am guessing it is the ignition switch but i do not know how to remove it and replace it. i don't think my key or the tumblers are the problem. Any help would be greatly apprecitated.

thank you,
collin

Answer
Hello Collin,  There only two reasons the 850 switch won't turn. One the front wheels are turned too sharply. In this case turn the sterring wheel to relieve the pressure on the sterring  collumn. Then attempt to turn the key.Second, the lock tumblers themselves. In some cases the key would turn 360 degrees.Ask your local dealer to check your VIN # to see if the electrical part of the switch should be replaced also.Thank You and good hunting!  PKD
