Volvo Repair: 1996 Volvo 850R, volvo 850r, volvo owners

Question
Hi there, any information that could help me would be greatly appreciated.  I own a '96 volvo 850R that has 120,000 miles on it.  I recently noticed thick smoke coming from my exhaust accompanied by rapid burning of oil.  I brought it to a mechanic and was told I needed a new head-gasket, pistons, rings, and timing belt...among other things.  $2,100.00 later the car was smoking worse than it was when i brought it in.  I returned to the mechanic (whom i feel is reputable) and he has now informed me that i need a new turbo unit because it was flooded with oil.  Am i getting ripped off?  He told me that I wouldn't pay any labor fees for any work done on the engine until the smoking ceased.  I paid him in cash, not credit.  What are your thoughts?  I look forward to hearing from you.

Chris

Answer
Hello Chris,  Well first thing,it was the T/bo all the time. Lack of oil changes is what kills a T/bo.Your not so much getting ripped off, just 'under serviced'! Let him do the work but don't pay cash, use the CARD there are protections built in,so if there are any more problems, your money won't be one of them. If I were you I wouldn't let him touch her,get your old parts and  let the dealer repair her and 'Small claims court' here I come!Thank you and good hunting! PKD ps. any other Volvo needs find other volvo owners, they will help.
