Volvo Repair: 1988 760 turbo A/C vent shutoff, accelerator pedal, vacuum hose

Question
My 1988 760 turbo wagon has a problem which initially started with the A/C vents closing while driving.  The A/C is on and the fan is blowing ,but the forward vents won't open. You could feel the air escape through the side vents and defroster vents. At first it turned off anf on, but now it will not blow through the mid level vents at all.  I was told it might be a vacuum hose leak. If so, is it something I can check and fix on my own. Thanks, Steve

Answer
Hello S.L,  There is a vacuum pod right above the accelerator pedal. For the 'bang zoom repair disconnect the hose and plug it with a suitable screw.(When you are accelerating your loosing vac. to that pod and it closes.)Thank you and good hunting!  PKD
