Volvo Repair: 1995 Volvo 960 - Engine Hesitation/Sputtering, engine hesitation, 1995 volvo 960

Question
Hi,
My 960 has 99k miles on it and I bought it in April 2004, previously a one owner car.  Since about December I have noticed significant hesitation or sputtering from the engine and loss of horsepower at higher speeds (Around 60-70 mph).  I have also noticed the smell of gasoline when my car is parked with the engine running.  I have had the radiator and catalytic converter replaced since I have owned the car.

The dealership noticed this hesitation as well and said it may be a bad ignition coil.  I just checked all of the ignition coils (using an ohmeter or multimete) and they were not faulty.  I do not know where to begin to troubleshoot this problem.  Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Robert

Answer
the coil may still be bad.the coil may be breaking up under a load.if it idles rough you could try disconnecting injectors one a t a time and see which one does not affect the cars idle this will be the bad cylinder.it could be a coil ,injector.the last one I saw had no compression in one cylinder.
