Volvo Repair: Transmission Noise - then elec power loss - 89 740 GLE, windows radio, transmission noise

Question
My first volvo - 89 740 GLE 16 valve.  Driven it 6000 miles in 4 months with no problems.  (115 k miles)Today, hottest day  of year, drove 5 miles, then parked. upon return 5 min later, car started but heard weird noise.  Put it in rev, and all new grinding noises, put it back into park, more noises. Waited 1 min, noises gone, drove away.  Then, as driving I noticed I lost elec power to Windows, radio, AC/Heater Fan, etc.  SRS and ABS idiot lights on dash were on. Drove 2 miles and parked it.  Checked all fuses - all were fine. Let car cool down 10 min w hood open.  Car started fine, no noise all accessories that didnt work, now working normally.  Any ideas?

Answer
sounds like the electrical part of the ignition was sticking and the starter was grinding on the flywheel from being enguaged.the lights staying on and accessories not working definately sound like a bad ignition switch.I would have the electrical part of the ignition switch replaced.
