Volvo Repair: Starting Promblems 850, battery cables, ryhme

Question
I have replaced the battery,  alternator, and a used starter- bench tested and working fine.
850  (1995) Turbo
problem is this-  when turning ignition I either get a click and then nothing or just nothing, battery is charged, all indicator lights are working just fine,  and occasionally, it will start,  strange though.  No real ryhme or reason to when it will start.  Sometimes on the first try. Others, Ihave to turn ignition over and over?  completely baffled.  Any thoughts?

Answer
Sounds like high resistance in the battery cables.  Make sure there is a good connection at the battery, alternator, and the starter.  Perhaps you should get some new ones if they are considerably old or in bad shape.  If the resistance is enough it can inhibit starter engagement but can still work sometimes.  Intermittent troubles are hard to find.  Thats where I would start but may end up not being the problem.  Hope that helps.
