Volvo Repair: 1987 Volvo 740 GLE Non Turbo..., volvo 740 gle, fuel delivery system


Question
1987 Volvo 740 GLE Non Turbo 4door sedan 168000 miles wifes car drives 10-12 miles per day if that.
chasing ghost last 2 years. Car intermittently bucks kicks and stalls at stoplight. May run 3 days like new then will start stalling or shutting down (tach drops to zero) then back up to 2500rpm etc., buck and hesitate.Sometimes stalls then catches (like running out of gas) on take off.

Have replaced both gas pumps OME.2003

Answer
You've done most of the fuel and ignition components.  Have you looked into anything concerning airflow?  It will give the same results as if something was wrong with the fuel delivery.  You may need to clean the throttle body, or idle air motor.  Checked for blocked air passages, air filter, etc.  It still could be another part of the fuel delivery system.  Depending on what bosch system is used on that car different things could cause it.  If its using D-jet then it as run off of vacuum.  You don't have to throw parts at it to find the problem, just look over anything that could cause the problem and then start eliminating ones that are working properly.  Hope that helps.
