Volvo Repair: 850 srs light, volvo 850 glt, airbag module

Question
I have a 1993 Volvo 850 GLT sedan. The SRS light in the dash is always on. A year ago the airbag module was replaced. I know the car has onboard diagnostics. I have used this for other systems. I can't find anything in my repair manual on retrieving codes for the airbag. I would like to clear the codes and see if the light comes back on. If you have any information it would be greatly appreciated, Thanks Larry.

Answer
Okay, under the hood you'll need to find the A B box (about 4 inches by 5 inches, will be near to one side of the engine bay, will have a cover on it and when you pop it off you will see 6 holes on either side and a big A and B printed on it).  After you find it, pull the ground lead off of the back and put the terminal into slot 5 on the B side (this initiates diagnostic mode 1, code retrieval.  There may be a button to press depending on the year, not sure for the 93).  Then the led there will flashes a series of lights.  A number of flashes then a pause, flashing then pause, then flashing.  Write down how many times it flashes for the first second and third time and then comper to the diagnostic charts.  Here are the possible codes:

1-1-1 No fault
1-1-2 Internal crash sensor fault*
1-2-7 SRS lamp short circuit or open circuit
2-1-1 Driver airbag module, short circuit
2-1-2 Driver airbag module, open circuit
2-1-3 Driver airbag module, short circuit to ground
2-1-4 Driver airbag module, short circuit to power
2-2-1 Passenger airbag module, short circuit
2-2-2 Passenger airbag module, open circuit
2-2-3 Passenger airbag module, short circuit to ground
2-2-4 Passenger airbag module, short circuit to power
2-3-1 Left-hand belt tensioner, short circuit
2-3-2 Left-hand belt tensioner, open circuit
2-3-3 Left-hand belt tensioner, short circuit to ground
2-3-4 Left-hand belt tensioner, short circuit to power
2-4-1 Right-hand belt tensioner, short circuit
2-4-2 Right-hand belt tensioner, open circuit
2-4-3 Right-hand belt tensioner, short circuit to ground
2-4-4 Right-hand belt tensioner, short circuit to positive

*If DTC 1-1-2 is posted, do not clear this code; return the sensor unit to Volvo in accordance with current procedures (contact the dealer).

Be ready to write in case there is more than one code.  Hope that helps.
