Volvo Repair: loss of power, volvo 760, heavy throttle

Question
I just bought a 1989 volvo 760 intercooler from a friend. It was running fine and all of a sudden @ about 55 mph just climbming up to traffic speed off a ramp on to highway speed there is a significant lag, not complete stall but If I let go of throttle the motor returns to normal but I have to nurse or feather accelerator at that point.Warm or cold doesnt matter. If I floor it,the motor makes a hissing sound like the turbo is winding up but then acceloration is achieved but I can smell raw gas and It uses alot of fuel. Also when automatic shifts from stand still it goes 1st and then jumps second right into third without second having a chance to wind up to acceptable rpms I know this sounds like a lot to ask but I am disabled and on a fixed income and need to try to get the car running safley to get to doctors appt.Your expertise would be extremly helpfull!!!!! Answer
well if you are a BROWNS FAN  I can not help you it is agaianst my STEELERS code of conduct.just kidding.I would check all the turbo hoses carefully for holes especially the one from the turbo to the air cleaner housing.this hose usually gets oil on it and gets a hole or gets soft and weak.when it gets soft under heavy throttle it will collapse causing a restriction.which will cause lose of power and black smoke.HAPPY HOLIDAYS.
