Volvo Repair: EZ 116K Diagnostic Codes, electronic control units, electronic control unit

Question
I have a 1990 240 DL. The car stalls and dies ramdomly when driving. Car will restart and run, but stalling is becoming more frequent. At first the car would stall 2-3 times a week, now it happens every time I drive the car. I am getting code 1-4-4 which indicates load signal missing from LH control unit. My first question is: Is the LH control module the same as the Electronic Control Unit? From the book I have (Haynes),it appears to be the same unit. Is there any thing else I should check with this code? With the cost of replacing a ECU, I want to make sure it is the culprit.

Thanks,

Answer
electronic control unit is a general term. there are 2 electronic control units one for ignition one for fuel.the fuel one will say bosch on it and is behind the kick panel by passengers right leg .the only other thing would be to check the wiring between the 2 control units which is probably ok. I am not sure on the cost of the control unit.I would guess between 700-1000 dollars.
