Volvo Repair: Volvo Intake manifold carbon, v70 xc, throttle assembly

Question
I have a 2000 V70 XC with approximately 30,000 miles.  The car JUST began almost of actually stalling when braking to a stop.  The dealer says that they have to remove the intake manifold and clean out the carbon build-up ($500).  He says that if we don't, it will soon be a $1700 repair involving replacement of the throttle assembly ($700 part).  He also mentioned "enlarging the hole for the PCV valve."  Does this make any sense?

Answer
Hello,
yes they are true. I recommend also Throttle cleaning, and also there is software upgrade for throttle unit, ETM Upgrade SW part no 30677023 and Engine Control Module Software Upgrade part no 30677021. These upgrades will be beneficial for your car. These Softwares are very cheap, both of them approx 1 USD.
