Volvo Repair: volvo 740 turbo starting problem, volvo 740, fuel pumps

Question
Dear Phil,  I have owned a 740 turbo for a week run perfect all week, started first time, ran well.  It is a 1988 with 130,000 miles on clock.  Came to it today started but ticking over at about 500 revs all warning lights flickering when revved still ran rough. Stopped the car would not fire, sounded like starter motor spinning but not doing anything.  Managed to start it again, same problem, car stalled and would not restart.  Bumped the car off in second gear, car ran perfectly, restarted no problem, no sign at all of previous symptoms.  Started car 3 or 4 times no problem, 5th attempt car won't start.

Answer
Sounds very sporadic, harder to pinpoint. Need to isolate if problem is fuel or ignition. Next time problem arises, check for spark at plugs. Then remove a plug and check if it is wet or not.
..no spark, check distributor, cap and wires and coil. And power to it.
..no fuel or too much, need to perform fuel pressure test on system and make sure fuel pressures are up to par. Make sure injectors are firing by listening for click at injectors. Make sure fuel pumps are running.
This'll give you idea as to where to look for problem.
