Volvo Repair: turning over...but not strarting, fuel pump relay, crank sensor

Question
1988 4-door 240 GL aprox. 180,000 miles
Car will start after sitting for one hour or more
but after the car has run for a few mins it will turn over but will not start. Fuel pump fuse is good. I really have not checked too many other things.

Answer
Several things can cause a no-start. First check to see if there is spark at the spark plug, if none, may be a faulty crank sensor which is located on the top of the transmission  behind the engine. If there is good spark, check to see if you hear the fuel pump buzz as you're cranking the engine. If not check or replace the fuel pump relay. Last, if all these checks out and it still doesn't start try pulling the connector for the air mass meter and see if it starts, if so, may be bad air mass meter.
