Volvo Repair: remove lh strut on 1983 240, wheel hub, haynes manual

Question
I need to replace the strut LH (drivers side).
How do I remove it from the Wheel hub, or is this all one piece? I have a Haynes manual but it is vague on how to remove the strut housing from the hub. I have a spring compresser and all the tools.(I hope) To do the job.
Hope you can help.....
     Thanks.  Ray

Answer
The strut and hub or spindle is one unit. Two ways to do it. Take the whole thing off the car and do on bench or do it on car. I prefer to do it on the car myself.
Remove wheel, remove bolt holding brake line to body, disconnect that side of sway bar at end-link, disconnect tie-rod end, last step, remove three nuts at top (mark it first and be careful, the whole strut will want to fall down).
Drop the strut down carefully. Now use a strap of some kind to secure it to the a-arm or frame so the whole stut won't swingout and rip out the brake lines which are still connected. Control the slack in the strap as you swing the strut housing out from under the fenderwell. The strut housing now is supported only by the a-arm and your strap. Now you can compress the spring.
