Volvo Repair: lack of power, manifold gaskets, low tank

Question
yeah, i tried that.  the volvo dealer said it was the intake manifold gaskets. first off, the problem is obviously electrical and secondly, i had already replaced them.  i guess they just didn't want to work on it.

well its definitely not the transmission, and the in tank pump checks out good.  any other suggestions?

i have a 1988 760gle with the b280f engine and 234,000 miles.  the car randomly has a lack of power where it will just not accelerate past a certain RPM (this RPM is always differnt).  it almost feels like the transmission is holding it back (as if the throttle valve cable was adjusted improperly).  however, the car can be restarted and will work fine.  it might be the first time you restart it, it might be the fifth.  this problem is independent of the engine temperature and definitely seems electrical.

these are the components i have replaced:  air mass meter, oxygen sensor, all ignition components except for the coil, knock sensors, hall sensor, intake manifold and fuel injector O-rings, main fuel pump, and both engine temperature sensors.

the car had the problem when i bought it, and although the problem has gotten a little better, it still persists.  upon inspection of the old spark plugs, the motor looks to be running very lean, but adjusting the air mass meter doesn't seem to help any.  i think the only engine sensor left i haven't changed is the crank position sensor.  i'm afraid its something with the computer, any input would be greatly appreciated.

When the problem occurs where it will not rev, try putting it in neutral and try revving it. If problem still there, then the problem probably is not in the transmission. Otherwise it problem goes away, you may want to have transmission check it out.

Check also if this happens on low tank of gas, there is a fuel pump in tank that occasionally goes out.

You've already isolated a lot of components by replacing them. At this point I would really recommend bringing it to a shop to diagnose. Replacing anything else at this point without pinpointing problem is only guessing.

Answer
No I don't think the intake gaskets would take care of it. and sorry for your bad luck with dealer. If I had to start replacing parts, I would start with fuel filter and then knock sensor. I don't see the other items you listed causing this kind of problem.

Have you checked fuel pressure with pressure guage?
Have you checked the exhaust system for restriction? A back pressure gauge tapped into the exhaust will show rising reading while driving if there is restriction. Or you can try tapping on various parts of exhaust with a rubber mallet to make sure nothing has loosened inside and is floating around.
Let me know.
