Question -
Starts runs for 20 to 30 seconds and then dies.
Restarts again, same.
If driven will run if kept over 1000 rpm.
What's wrong?
Answer -
Needs more info. Does keeping foot on gas keep it on?
Does it idle rough?
Does it sputter before dying?
Does it take awhile to crank?

Check for vacuum leaks.
Check idle control valve circuit.
Check all hoses to and from turbo.

More info.-
Yes keeping my foot on the gas can keep it running. The idle is not very rough and it does not sputter before dying. It does take a while longer to crank. We were wondering if it might have something to do with the fuel relay or filter. The turbo has also not been working at times. The whole exhaust system is pretty rusty. So does this help more?

Answer
Needs to check all basic engine settings and if those are fine, then start looking for vacuum leaks and worn or broken vacuum hoses. Pull all the spark plugs out to inspect them. See if any one plug looks different from others, that'll help to isolate problem.
The next part of diagnosis is to check fuel pressure system and see if it's within specs.

I don't think the fuel filter or relay will help beacause those would have different symptoms. Rusty exhaust is ok too unless there is a restriction or big exhaust leak.

How do you know the turbo is not working? Is it lacking power or does the gauge not move. Non-functioning gauge may be vauum leak problem.
