Volvo Repair: idle control, 1999 volvo v70, volvo v70

Question
My wife has a 1999 volvo v70 with 79000 miles.  The check engine light came on at the same time it started to stall when slowing and stopping.  The code 0506 was retrieved which I understand to be idle control.  Would this require replacing the idle control valve and if so, how difficult and where is it?  Thanks for any help you can offer.

Answer
I haven't repaired an idle valve on this model, but on previous units I have had luck by cleaning them internally with throttle cleaner, which by the way is not volvo recommended repair. The idle valve is this t-shaped cylinder/valve which is near the throttle body. Follow all the hoses by the throttle and you'll locate it.

Also check the throttle bore to be sure it is not gummed up with crud, if it is wipe it down with throttle cleaner, do not spray in there,  After cleanimg, reset code and test drive to see if idle has changed for the better.
