Volvo Repair: 1990 Volvo 740, gas milage, resistance of the wire

Question
Do you know what a airmass meter is ? And if I am having a problem with it, how do I fix it ? The following is the problem;
This Volvo runs great and gets good gas milage, but it stops running sometimes when at a red light, and is difficult to restart. It will quit running going down the road for a second or two, then restart on its own. Mr Easler,III, from allexperts told me to check the fuel and idnition system and read the codes. I did, and came up with a 1-2-1 code of flashes. Which he said was the airmass meter. That is all he told me, I need to know how to fix it. When i went back to ash him again he was maxed out.
What a bummer..... Any ideas....

Answer
Hello,
yes according to code and according to the problem you describe the airmass meter has problem. It measures the air quantity that enters the engine, so according to this quantity the engine control unit decides how much fuel should be injected to engine. So, if airmass meter has problem, the control unit decides wrongly and adjusts wrongly, and the car stops and/or can not be started sometimes.
It is produced with "hot-wire anomemeter" principal, that means while the wire gets hot or cold due to air mass enters on the wire, the resistance of the wire changes and so the control unit decides according to this resistance level how much air enters the engine. This part is very high tech part. And unfortunately to repair it is impossible. There is only one way to repair the problem regarding air mass meter, to replace it with new one.
