Volvo Repair: EGR cleaning, flame trap, penetrating oil

Question
Hello,

My 1994 850 wagon failed the smog because of "EGR no flow". I
am attempting to clean the EGR and throttle body according to
the directions on volvospeed.com, but I ran into trouble - I can't
get the 22mm nut loose at all to remove the EGR! There is no
where to get leverage in there and the nut is really stuck. Is it
possible to effectively clean it without removing the EGR from
the car?

Also when I took off the air cleaner hose off, there was a lot of
ffresh oil in the large elbow that attaches to the vaccuum hoses
and flame trap. How does the oil get there and how can I stop it
from seeping in there and clogging the whole system again?

Thanks for any help you can offer on the cleaning of the EGr and
throttle body!

Tina

Answer
I would just clean the throttle body on the car with carbuerator cleaner.after spraying it clean it will be hard to start because of all the fluid in the intake manifold.

the only way to clean the EGR is to get it off the car.you could try a penetrating oil and tapping it with a hammer to loosen the rust.hit the nut with a hammer on its flat side do not damage the corners.this may help llosen it so it can be removed.
