Volvo Repair: Fuel injection computer, fuel injection computer, fuel delivery system

Question
I have an 84 240 volvo wagon, manual trans.
The starter will turn the engine over but  there does not seem to be gas pulled into the chamber.

-the car will turn over and run for a short time if you use starter fluid through the air intake. So there is spark.
  - there is plenty of gas reaching the metal tubing that feeds the fuel injectors. So it would not seem to be a problem with the   fuel delivery system.

These things lead me to believe the problem is the fuel injector control module.
I also previously had some problems with the electrical system and  wires that had lost their coating and would ground themselves, mainly around the alternater. So it might make sense that this somehow caused problems with the control unit?

I wanted to try and make sure before I sink the money into a new unit. Thanks for your help. Jonathan

Answer
there may still be problems in the wiring this year was known for the harness in various places loosing its insulation and sorting out wires.it may have also caused damage to the fuel control unit which controls the injectors.you would need to check the harness carefully.then if needed replace it with a new one or if you have more time than money buy some wire and rewire the harness.then check for power and a oscillating ground at the injectors when cranking the car over.
