Volvo Repair: Timing Belt, flame trap, timing belt

Question
I have a 1991 240.  In the past year I have all of the belts replaced twice and the front and rear seals, pcv valve replaced.  It recently broke down.  The mechanic reported a broken timing belt and also that all of the previously mentioned items needed to be fixed.  I was under the impression that in volvos, if the timing belt broke, that was the end of the engine.  Can the engine be salvaged after a timing belt break?  Any clue as to why my engine constantly spews oil, despite seals being replaced multiple times?

Answer
the engine will be just fine even if the belt breaks on this model.the new cars from the 850,960 model years on up to the new ones will damage the head.

not sure on the oil problem I would replace the flame trap and be sure all its hoses and vacumm connections are not clogged.
