Volvo Repair: Trouble starting after fenderbender., safety switch, shift lever

Question
Regis, I have a 92, 240 sedan automatic trans. Which was in a slight fenderbender. After getting the car back from the body shop, I notice that the gear shift seemed much tighter. When I turned to key to start it- it would'nt start. I had to jamm the car into PARK- once I did that, the car started perfectly. Now it wont start at all. What's happened?

Answer
sounds like the nuetral safety switch has become misaligned.under the shifter cover is the switch it has a white piece that slides along the contacts of the switch this white piece has a notch in it where a pin on the shift lever fits into it so when the shifter is moved so is the slide piece for the switch.usually th shifter gets bent and the pin does not contact the switch porperly.sometimes t can be bent back.
