Volvo Repair: 1996 Volvo 850 antenna, volvo 850, broken pieces

Question
When I turn off my '96 850 the antenna does not retract.  The electric motor runs, but the linkage inside does not draw the antennat down.  When I use my hand to press the antenna down and wiggle it abit I can get it to retract (fully), and when I turn the car on again it will extend (again fully), but will not retract.  Do I need to replace only the mast?  Will I need to take the motor apart to remove broken pieces?  If so, where (on the net?) can I find instructions to do so?  Your answer about mast replacement that was already posted didn't say how you remove the old mast once the nut on the top has been removed--just pull it out?

Thanks.

Answer
sounds like the nast is broken and yes it will need to come apart to  remove the broken piece.I do not believe that was my answer but it may have been.with the nut off you pull the mast out then you will need to remove the side panel in the trunk to access the motor.then remove the motor from the car which is 2 10mm bolts I believe then take the 1/4 inch nut off the motor and remove the side cover then remove the white wheel piece inside this is where the broken piece will be.then reassemble and reinstall then turn on radio install mast have someone turn radio off then feed the new mast in till the motor catches it
