Question -
I have a 1989 volvo 740 SE Unfortunately I've had the stereo stolen with all the wires cut of from the radio itself. I have a goodmans cd stereo to fit into it but just need to know which colour wires correspond to which ie which is earth, power, right and left speakers (+ and -) please

there were 2 types of radios.one was lik an old style radio with 2 large knobs at opposite sodes of the radio the other had one knob for on and off and then was all push buttons with preset buttons.

if it was the later type it would have a small amp connected to the radio via a DIN cable.if so it will need to be wired to the other side of the amplifier.that is how I wired mine which had an amp after the radio.let me know ehat kind it was I have the wiring diagram here.

ok at the radio connection
Green/Red there are 2 one is battery power hot all the time the other is power to the antenna.

black is ground
orange is for ignition power only hot when you turn the key on.

now the speakers will need to be wired on the output side of the amp this will eliminate the amp.this is the only way because  the din cable is the speaker output from the radio to the amp and the wiring diagram has no information on this.

so at the amplifier the speaker wires are as follows.  

LF+ blue/yellow
LF- white
LR+ yellow/brown
LR- yellow/gray
RR+ green/brown
RR- green
RF+ gray/white
RF- gray
