Volvo Repair: 1997 volvo 960 sedan 6cyl:, transmission control unit, 1997 volvo 960

Question
Sometimes the transmission light switches back and forth between (E)Economy and (W)Winter with a flashing arrow on the instr: panel. How do I fix it? Is it serious? Noticed on one occasion that the car seemed to be slow to take off, but not sure if it was just too cold or gear slipping problem. Can it be checked while symptoms not
occuring?

The air pump is malfunctioning - permanent fault- Check engine light on cont:. Seems to be a common problem with this model. Is it a sticky air pump valve? The engine seems to function OK, but I don't know if it is within permissible emmision level. Can the pump be overhauled?  Thanks.

Answer
you will need to have codes checked in the transmission control unit with a scan tool.most common is a bad Park Nuetral Position switch on the transmission.

it could be a bad relay pump or bad valve it will need to be fault traced for a proper diagnosis.
