Volvo Repair: check engine light, spedometer, speedo

Question
I just purchased a 1991 240 station wagon and I have two questions.
1. The spedometer doesn't work except when the "SRS" light comes on.  Then it works fine..
2. Yesterday the check engine light flashed and when it did the car cut out to the point of stalling.  Then the light stayed on and now the car seems to be running ok.  Should I be concerned and is there a way to turn it off?

Answer
well the srs/speedo is an electrical feed back fault. probably located in the speedo head itself but would need to be confirmed through some tests. as to the check engine light, that can be reset by unplugging the battery, but getting it evaluated would be the best course of action. to prevent a possible future breakdown.
