Volvo Repair: Windshield wipers will not work, volvo wagon, unision

Hi,
In a snow storm yesterday, I left my wipers on. I have a 1997 960 volvo wagon. When I returned to the car and started it, the wipers bound up and now they do not work. There is a sound (I think it is the motor still working) when I turn on the wiper switch, however, the wipers do not move. I did tighten the nut in case it was loosened, again, the wipers did not work.
I can manually move the blades (they move in unision). Unfortunately, our volvo shop is closed today.  Do you know what may need to be done? If parts are needed, do you have an idea what the shop may need to order?

you will need to remove the cowl panel below the wiper arms and see if the linkage has disconnected or has broken a part.it may have just come disconnected.to remove the panel remove the wiper arms then there are 3 10mm bolts one at each end of the panel and the other is in the middele of the panel located on the firewall.then the panel will lift out.
