I have a repair shop.Cust brought in a 89 chevy vixen. We took out the 89 3.8L & installed a 96 buick regal SC.3.8L. The problem i am having is that it will start and run for 10 sec. then stall. Come to find out i have a comp. with VATS.but what i don't have is a programed key becausd in a 89 motor home did not come with itso i can't wsed a bypass kit.How do i rewire it .or can i buy a ecu for a 96 with out vats.Of cause i also installed the wireing harness for the 96 but only the eng. harness. What did i get myself into?

You got yourself into a mess!!!!!!
You can bypass the VATS system the same way that you do when you install a remote start system. You will need to wire in a resistor to trick the PCM into thinking it has the correct key. The resistor will have to match the resistor that was in the key for the 96. There are 15 different ones used by GM. That is about all I can tell you.
Good luck with this one.          Question:  Do u know what wire to the ecu the resistor go to?cause as you know there is no vats system in this vehicle at all.I look up for the bypass sys. and you have to have vats module & relay to bypass.

On second thought, since you dont have any of the VATS components, you wont need to wire in a resistor. The resistor is to "trick" the VATS module into thinking you have the right key.
You will need to either power up or ground the VATS signal wire into the PCM. I dont have any wiring diagrams here to see which terminal you are looking for but I will look it up. I need you to reply back to me with a follow up question, just like you did before, so that I can give you the info tomorrow. Thats the only way to get a link back to me.          Question :The things we shop owners get ourselfs into.I was looking a a wiring dia. and the only thing I could see is pin 55 bk/bL I put full 12V no cnange and ground still  no change.I know i'm missing something.

Answer
I did some research on this yesterday at work and I think you might be screwed. You are correct, it is pin 55 in connector #1 on the PCM. It is the signal wire from the theft module to the PCM for fuel enable. The problem is that it is a pulsed 5 volt signal. It goes from 0-5 volts constantly when the key is correct. If you backprobe the terminal with the car running it will read about 2.5 volts. All of the tests for the system tell you to check it with a hertz meter and it should read 40-60 Hz.
I dont know how you are going to rig something that will give the PCM the correct signal. The only way that I can see is to wire in a theft module and a resistor(as the key).
If you want to try it this way I can give you all of the pin numbers and wire hook-ups you will need. Let me know if you want this info or let me know if you find another solution.
Good Luck.
