Buick/Olds: speedometer, buick century, speedometer

My speedometer isnt working at all. A few days ago it was moving but was not accurate now it doesnt move at all. My car is a 1991 buick century,4 door,6 cylinder. I was just wondering if it could  be something i could fix on my own. So im not paying and arm and a leg. My odometer is still working if that helps. I was told that there is a wire that reaches from the back of the speedometer to the engine and it might be loose. your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.  thx

If your odometer is still working then the parts in the transmission are still working and the wiring should be ok. Your problem is probably in the speedometer itself. You will probably need to remove the instument cluster and send it out for repairs. Ask your local dealer who they use or have them send it for you.
