Cadillac: Hesitation, vacuum line, vacuum unit

I just recently purchased a 1966 Cadillac "Calais".  When I step on the gas pedal, the car hesitates and then takes off!  I can feel the hesitation at every speed, even when it's in cruise control.  I've replaced the fuel filter, but no change has been noted.

A 1966 ?. Are you POSITIVE of the year of the vehicle ?.

If it IS a 1966, I would have to say you most likely have an accelerator pump in the carburator that the rubber seal is worn out and the carb has to come apart and the accelerator pump replaced.

OR if you have a distributor that has a vacuum line going to it, The vacuum line is missing, has a leak in it or is very soft to the touch and needs to be replaced or the vacuum diaphram on the distributor where the vacuum line attaches has an internal rupture and the vacuum unit needs to be replaced.
