Cadillac: 1995 deville calibration failure, climate control system, electrical harness

Question
Tom,
For the past 2 weeks my '95 deville (4.9L) has been doing a couple of odd things and I don't know where to begin. The entire display has gone out, including the stereo (stereo still works though). Every couple of minutes it will flash "calibrating", then either "calibration failure" or "calibration complete". In either case nothing has come back as far as the display goes. Also, the climate control system has switched to the defroster only (full fan) and cannot be shut off while the key is on. Without a display I cannot get the codes - what is going on?

Answer
I have only seen this a couple of times. You need to remove the cluster and test each electrical circuit at the cluster wire harnesses to make sure that all your inputs are OK and if they are, You would need to replace the cluster.

I can provide the test procedure for the cluster electrical harness connections if you e-mail me at: onlineautohelp@msn.com
