Tom,

When I start the car it shoots out some white smoke but then stops. However you can smell like its burning gas or something. Also sometimes when I turn off the car it won't shut off, it sounds like the carburator is choking and continues on until I turn the ignition back on and the car immediately starts up again.
Is this a sign that I need a new carburator? Is this whats also causing the white smoke and burnt gas smell?

Thanks

Have you ever seen the CHECK ENGINE light illuminate on the dash panel when you were driving the car ?.

Your problem sounds like you have a fault in the IDLE SPEED CONTROL MOTOR circuit whereas the engine rpm's are staying to high when you shut down the engine.

Answer
NO. We need to see what code you are getting that is causing the check engine light to illuminate.

Take the vehicle down to any autozone auto parts store and they will use a scanner to find out what code you have.

Write down the code # and tell them to ERASE the code and then let me know what the code number or numbers are.
