Cadillac: 2001 DTS Transmisssion troubles, 4 quarts, vacuum hose

2001 DTS 97k service?
Pulled into service station and reverse would not work. Had to continue.  Pulled to rest stop and discovered fluid was low added a quart.  Level ok.  Ran for about 20 miles and pulled over. Once stopped car would not move. Added 4 quarts and made it home, smoke billowing from car.  At home, put car on jacks to find leak. Found none.  Car runs forward in low gear, no reverse.  Is my tranny toast?

The trans fluid went somewhere are you positive you have no leaks ?. the only other possibility is that one of the vacuum modulators (if applicable to your vehicle ) ruptured the internal diaphram and the vacuum from the engine sucked the trans fluid thru the modulator vacuum hose and into the engine thus burning it thru the exhaust.

Whether your trans is toast or not will depend upon fixing the problem and performing some pressure tests on it.
