Cadillac: 1994 Cadillac antilock light, cadillac sedan deville, ecbm

Question
Hello Tom, I have a 1994 Cadillac Sedan DeVille. The antilock light is staying on once I start moving. I recently took it in to the dealer, and they told me I needed a new EBCM, The price was $1200.00,  or possibly a new BPMV. and I found your site, and about checking the sensors since I recently changed all 4 pads. I have not done this yet, but found the EBCM in the trunk behind the back seat. If after checking the sensors, and I replace the ECBM, (I found a local parts place which sells reman. Raysbestos EBCM's for $340.00), if that is the problem, will that reset the computer, clear the code, and make the light stay off, or do I have to manually clear the code? Any info would be appreciated.
Regards, Robert Sladek

Answer
You have to perform numerous tets on the other components in the system to be ABSOLUTIVELY POSITIVE that the problem is within the EBCM and or within the BPMV.

Your problem may NOT be in either of these components but in a different component within the brake system.

If you have a shorted or faulty component within the system and you plug in a new EBCM or BPMV you can DESTROY the new EBCM or BPMV which leaves you out the costs for these components and you still have the SAME problem.

You need to perform all of the diagnostic tets on the system in order to determine EXACTLY what is at fault.

Once you buy electrical components and discover that they are NOT the cause of your problem, You CANNOT return them and you are STUCK with them.

If you have a fairly high skill level for doing electrical diagnostics and can read and understand electrical schematics, I can provide you with all the available information pertaining to your system.
