Cadillac: 2000STS/ Oil Changes, crank case, service reminder

Question
Tom: I have just over 80,000 KMs on my STS - I use it mainly for semi annual trips to FL. The "service reminder" sticker on the wind shield shows a date and audometer number at which service is due. Is it reasonable to ignore the date and just adhere to the number, which would mean the next oil change would not be until I've done 8,000 Kms - probably at least 3 months from now? As I inferred, most of my driving is on highways, little in stop and go city traffic. Also, I question whether the oil in the crank case deteriorates when the car is just sitting in my garage! Thank you in anticipation of your response.

Answer
Chabge the oila nd filter as recommended in your owners manual as today's engines run hotter and have many more parts that require lubrication thus causing more contamination.

Obviously the choice is yours to make but my vehicles get serviced every 4,000 miles or evry 3 to 4 months depending upon how, Where and driving conditions when the vehicle is driven.
