Cadillac: How to reset computer, electrical schematics, autohelp

Question
I guess I lost something in the tranlation. When my mechanic said he reset the computer, I pictured him either disconecting and then reconecting a black box(computer), or possibly just pulling out a circuit board and then re-seating it. At any rate, regardless of what my mechanic did, is there anything I can do to fix the problem- "the info center is blank except for one LED that looks like the letter "d", the heater control is blank except also, for one LED that looks like the letter "d"
Thanks,
 Robert

Question -
I have a 1989 Cadillac Deville. Three times now, my information center and heater information go blank and the heater locks in the on position, usually full hot.  The last time my mechanic told me he fixed it by unpluging the computer and the reinstalling. Instead of paying him $80 dollars each time to do this, where can I find this computer and how can I reset it?
Thanks
Answer -
Exactly WHAT is he unplugging ?. The ECM, The PROGRAMMER or the POWER MODULE ?.

ANYTIME you get the letter "d" on the display this is a fault of either:

1. A faulty BCM PROM insertion.

2. A faulty PROM.

3. A faulty BCM.
