Cadillac: 89 Deville Power steering pump, e mail address, timken bearing

Question
My Deville (4.5L) is my primary mode of transportation so it can't be down for very long.  The return hose on the power steering has lost it's retaining device and the fluid leaks out fairly quickly.  It has been an ongoing problem so the bearing is whining.  I can change bearings but no one seems to know what size of bearing it is.  I would like to get one before I take it apart.  Also no one can seem to identify or find the retainer on the return line.

Answer
First off tearing down and rebuilding the pump, Something I have done several times over the years requires some special GM tools and a hydraulic press.

I can provide you with an exploded view schematic and exact instructions on how to rebuild the pump.

It does show the return line retainer of which I can tell you is going to be a nightmare trying to find one as I lost one during one of my rebuilds and it took forever to get a replacement and I had to resort to using a junk yard, Something I HATE to do, one until the new one came in.

As far as the bearing it is a simple ball style bearing and is available thru TIMKEN bearing or you can cross reference the stamped numbers on the bearing and use another brand.

This is NOT an easy project to do and I do NOT know how well skilled you are in rebuilding this LOUSY style pump.

My best suggestion is to purchase a rebuilt one from any major auto parts store and save yourself alot of grief but this is up to you.
